The lead user interface (ui) designer will own a defined area of our user interface and design system, coordinating the work of other designers & engineersThis role will have the authority and accountability to shape user interface strategy and architecture at a holistic level and will contribute their expertise as an individual contributor on high-impact challengesThe lead defines, assigns, and follows up on problems requiring more out-of-the-box thinking and innovation and will be responsible for making critical group-level design decisions and understanding when to escalate as needed.
Leadership: defines ui direction for the product, acting as a strong advocate and driver of consistent, quality user interfaces.
Evolves or makes incremental changes to ui visual aesthetic that supports workiva brand.
Crafts strategies for improvements to visual aesthetic in ui.
Iterates on processes for tackling general ui challenges and evangelizes these processes
Plans, owns and delivers work mostly self-directed, with autonomy and minimal supportLooks ahead 2-4 months and forecasts issues and roadblocks.

User interface design: rapidly designs, iterates, and validates user interface solutions to meet user needs and constraints
Ideates collaboratively, facilitates cross team design critiques, and mentors others in design ideation.
Deeply understands ecosystem, but intuitively knows when to replicate or innovate
Considers application of interaction designs across all relevant devices, displays, applications, and input systems (mouse, touch, voice)
Understands and accounts for accessibility requirements in designs
Applies technical understanding of interactive web and software components to ui design
Crafts interface solutions including relevant ui systems, specific components and behaviors, and user interactions with them
Delivers guidance or specifications to product teams accounting for compliance with and references to the design system; grid, layout, and details of component styles and states; and functional properties and attributes of components
Designs ui solutions that can be leveraged in products that meet a broad range of customer needs and requirements
Demonstrates ideas to stakeholders through the use of tools, such as concept models, sketches, and prototypes
Build, measure, learn: creates prototypes to determine the success of a solution, while continuing to iterate and improve the solution after launch
Identifies and articulates what a success for the solution will look like
Collaborates with the product manager and researcher to create metrics
Engages with users to determine the value of the design solution
Deciphers feedback for rapid data-driven iteration of the solution
Works with development team to deliver the resulting solution
Tracks, follows-up, and further iterates on the delivered solution on a timely basis

7+ years professional experience as a ui designer.
Saas product ui design experience strongly preferred
Implemented or evolved design systems for multiple productsSolved for unknown problems which have unknown solutions in new and known product spaces; a leader in a product group area or areas.
Demonstrated exceptional proficiency in user interface design, delivering innovative solutions, rapid prototyping, and leadership.
Portfolio demonstrating expert design aptitude is highly recommended
B.a./b.sIn graphic design, user experience design, interaction design, software engineering, or equivalent experience
Master’s degree in human computer interaction, user experience design, interaction design or similar degree preferred
Up to 25% depending on project assignment
Working conditions & physical requirements
Reliable internet access for any period of time working remotely, not in a workiva office
How you`ll be rewarded
Base pay range in colorado: $126,000 - $169,000
A discretionary bonus typically paid annually
Restricted stock units granted at time of hire
The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this jobActual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
