Job description
We are hiring a principal scientist to join our polyolefin materials science group within our specialty catalyst business! the position will report to the director of r&d in the specialty catalysts (sc) business unitThe sc business offers highly specialized catalyst technology for polyolefins production and sustainability.
The scope of this job opportunity includes the identification of polyolefin technology gaps, articulation and leadership of catalyst technology platforms to address gaps and implementation of new catalyst technology working with internal and external customersThis position may be located at our corporate headquarters in columbia, md or remote.
Innovation development
Defines key technology platforms that enable the business to keep the technical edge in the industry
Leads catalyst projects included in the business growth portfolio
Develops structure-property relationships for po products from grace® advanced catalyst systems
Supports polyolefin products troubleshooting as required by grace clients
R&d leadership at the customer interface
Member of customer clients’ teams providing po products technology expertise
Develops with the unipol® pp client team members client plans and the tactics to support the strategy and supports unipol pp start-up activities
Develops customer-driven products for the unipol® pp standard product list
Participates in multi-functional teams to implement new catalyst developments at grace® customers
Intellectual property
Uses best scientific practices to explore technology options and generate intellectual property that increases grace® technical leadership in the marketplace
Documents technology development in scientific reports that build on grace® technical capability
Writes invention disclosures and patents on polyolefin products to protect grace® technology
Monitors competitive patents and develops strategies to oppose patents that threaten grace® technical position
Writes external papers that showcase grace® technology leadership in catalysis and polyolefins products
Required experience
Bs degree in chemistry or material science
10+ years of experience in the field
Demonstrated technical capability in the area of polymer product development
Preferred qualifications
Ph.dIn material science, engineering or similar
Customer interface experience
