As part of the esg (environment, social, governance) office, this team member will help shape and amplify vmware’s 2030 agenda – our vision to build a sustainable, resilient and secure digital foundation for allThis person will play a central role in leading vmware’s integrated esg comms/marketing strategy and storytelling across internal and external audiences.
This position will interact with cross-functional teams to drive esg marketing/comms planning and executionHe/she will co-own objectives and key results with other teams to ensure the overarching esg story and messaging is reaching relevant audiences and resonating.
He/she should be strategic in planning and proficient at connecting dots, while displaying a track record of rolling up their sleeves to ‘get stuff done’ in our high-paced environment.
Developing an integrated esg marketing & comms strategy & plan (right message, right platform, right audience, right time)
Strategy - develop and execute a comprehensive internal and external marketing/comms strategy, aligned with an overarching esg story to support our 2030 agenda objectives and esg goals.
Moments - create esg ‘moments that matter’ - aligning our story we want to tell with what audiences need to hear.
Plan - manage and plan overall esg comms calendar and rhythm for one time and ongoing events.
Deliver the plan in close partnership with cross-functional teams and the esg office
Connect - own and drive joint objectives and key results across teams including comms, marketing, finance & investments, esg office, sales, and r&d)
Train – own overall plan and provide esg training for key audiences - ambassadors, sales teams, employees, etc.
Create - develop esg communications owned by the esg office (quarterly exec council report, etc.)
Develop persona-based approach across audiences (employees, customers, partners, investors)
Success stories - build out esg success stories and case studies that resonate with persona-based priorities.
Investor narrative - build investor narrative arc, along with key ‘talk track and faqs’ for investor conversations.
Gtm opportunities - build out sales facing collateral – vbc, esg overview deck, rfp content, etc.
Manage & connect strategy across platforms and marketing/comms channels
Across platforms - manage high-impact presence across internal/external platforms (intranet, vmware.com, microsites, linked-in, twitter, social, etc.) and direct comms (emails, newsletters, quarterly updates, digests, etc.)
Freshness - ensure esg content is fresh & relevant on internal and external sites, blogs, etc.
Events - develop plan for team to maximize impact around speaking engagements and events/conferences.
Monitor benchmarking and industry trends to factor into our messaging & work
Benchmark - maintain competitive and industry benchmarking metrics, proof-points and narrative content.
Trends - identify emerging industry trends and offer suggestions on best-in-class esg approaches.
Deliver and manage key collateral and centralized repository
Esg office-owned collateral - deliver key marketing/communications collateral (e.g., walking deck presentations, executive narratives, media q&a, issue briefs and other comms materials)
Central repository - manage esg collateral for visibility and re-use – so team knows where and what content is.
Version control - manage master content & versioning across esg collateral.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferably in: marketing, communications, business administration, journalism or related area.
10+ years of relevant communications or business experience
Ability to build out a strategy and plan, and ensuring we deliver workstreams tied to business outcomes & metrics.
Strong knowledge of different comms and marketing channels, and how to amplify messages and drive effectiveness.
Superior communications skills, including experience and an ability to communicate effectively with c-suite.
Ability to take complex information and simplify both the message and visual delivery
Understanding of esg concepts, practices and industry trends
Empathy, good emotional intelligence, and cultural sensitivityGood sense of humor and ability to see work as fun.
