Manage front-end user services for an academic library supporting a college level curriculum.
Manage the circulation of physical library materials.
Track and/or report on the status of ongoing and new library initiatives.
Locate information in response to library patrons` requests.
Plan work to be accomplished by subordinate personnel to include setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work.
Evaluate and/or provide feedback on the work performance of personnel.
Develop performance standards for subordinate personnel to clarify major job duties, priorities, and expectations.
Participate in the development of long-range plans for library facilities, resources and services.
Conduct a library assessment to determine physical space needs.
Compile and/or analyze statistics to identify the resources needed to support library operations.
Participate in contingency planning for library operations.
Locate and/or arrange for inter-library loans of materials.
Make recommendations for more effective utilization of library resources.
Participate in the development of or modification of policies and/or procedures governing library operations.
Make recommendation to improve the efficiency of library services.
Identify the training needs of subordinate personnel.
Train library staff in duties such as receiving, shelving, researching, cataloging and use of equipment.
Instruct library patrons on how to use reference sources, card catalogs, ,and automated information systems.

In order to qualify, you must meet the basic requirement and the minimum qualifications described below.
ACompletion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor`s degree;
BA total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experienceTo qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized experience: one year of specialized experience which includes 1) participating in library planning and/or policy making; 2) supporting physical and virtual users of library facilities, resources, and/or services; 3) overseeing and/or maintaining the collections of books, periodicals, magazines, newspapers, and audiovisual materials; and 4) experience leading and/or supervising a teamThis definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (gs-11).
