About the role
We are seeking a health communications specialist i to support the state tribal local and territorial (stlt) support sectionThis section includes all activities under the deputy incident manager for state, tribal, local and territorial support and provides support to health departments to mitigate the impact of covid-19 across the nationThis is a remote mid-level health communications position that will provide support in the areas of community mitigation, infection prevention and control, data and surveillance, and public health laboratories.
Provide health communication support, including developing newsletters, mmwr communications packages, script and slide development for various meetings, ad-hoc requests from health departments, success stories of successful cdc and health department partnerships and other general communications supportSince response is always evolving, the specific needs of the team may differ as things change.
Provide health communication support and track prepared covid-19 responses (prs) through the review and clearance process as needed.
Follow established strategy for keeping prs updated and help identify gaps or needed content.
Assist with quality monitoring and assurance through the review of stlt calls and emails as needed.
Participate in stlt calls, including with the contact center vendor, and internally with the branch for the covid-19 surge and response.
Use relevant health communication, risk and crisis communication, and behavior change best practices to develop content to achieve objectives.
Translate technical and scientific subject matter into plain language communication products.
Work closely with the content team, trainer and operations and quality lead to collaborate on proposed solutions.
Requirements: required experience and skills
2-3 years of experience writing, reviewing, and editing health communication materialsExperience writing in plain language.
Previous cdc and/or public health experience highly desirable.
Previous experience in an emergency response setting highly desirable.
Previous work on or managed large-scale multi-media communication campaigns, with an emphasis on using social media strategies to reach priority audiences.
Superior multi-tasking and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize assignments, while remaining flexible to changing priorities and new initiatives.
Experience with microsoft office products.
Experience with collaborating with stakeholders and external partners.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Ability to efficiently manage and respond to multiple requests and priorities.
Ability to obtain government clearance.
Education and training
Bachelor`s degree in a related field such as communications (journalism, advertising, public relations), english (writing/editing) or public health
Master’s degree in public health or closely related field preferred.
