Ssi is looking for a ground systems operations engineerAs part of a small, hardworking, and accomplished team of mission systems and flight operations engineers, you will work closely with space vehicle and ground subsystem teams, leading and performing mission operations infrastructure development tasks throughout the full system lifecycleYour technical leadership will firmly establish the adp flight operations team`s capability to analyze data to uncover patterns for quick decision making while operating advanced spaceflight vehiclesAs a mission operations infrastructure engineer, you will bring a software engineering approach to ensuring our systems are operational and scalableYou will implement the infrastructure that allows for rapid development and iteration of mission control center application software operators will use to fly those vehicles.
Specific duties include
Identify, derive, develop, and maintain mission operations infrastructure requirements, including traceability and verification and validation approach, necessary to implement a design that meets objectives
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers representing flight vehicle systems, ground software, flight control operators and customers
Engage in and improve the whole lifecycle of software - from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement
Support services before they go live through activities such as system design, consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning and launch reviews.
Maintain software once it is live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency and overall system health.
Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.
Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems.
Configure, deploy, scale, and administer open source and commercial software
Support initiatives to improve mission systems and flight operations engineering and other functional processes and tools
Required qualifications
Bs degree in computer science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience
Work with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of novel space systems.
Develop ground architectures and system designs; lead the design and development of ground system products.
Support system development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration and test and formal program milestones.
Interface with program and customer personnel.
Manage a team of engineers and operations in accomplishing mission operations and ground segment development tasks.
Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of spacecraft systems and space vehicle operations.
Track space vehicle configuration, to include both hardware, software, and configurable item parameters.
Develop new procedures as required.
Mentor newer members of the flight operations team
Must be a u.sCitizen or national, u.sPermanent resident (current green card holder), or lawfully admitted into the u.sAs a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred qualifications
Experience with relational or non-relational databases, including configuring, deploying, scaling, and troubleshooting
Systematic problem-solving approach coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.
Experience with human spaceflightfamiliarity with one or more of the following areas:
Ground system architecture in the context of space mission flight operations
Ground software design and development
Spacecraft telemetry, commanding and sequencing
Flight-ground rf communicationsoperational fault management
Experience working with and proposing to the u.sGovernment research agencies (e.gNasa, afrl, darpa)
