The defense health agency (dha) strategic communications directorate integrates the research, planning, execution and evaluation of all military health system (mhs) public affairs and communications programs across multiple communications channels and disciplines to a wide variety of key audiences at the national and global level, including all military hospitals and clinical facilities, the undersecretary of defense for health affairs, the joint staff, the veterans administration, and congressThe dha director of communications is looking for a senior, experienced communications or public relations specialist, with experience providing oversight to major defense health organizations, to act as a senior advisor and organizational leader for the entire operation, with oversight for nearly a dozen major projectsThis includes strategic outreach, management of publicly and internally shared information, public affairs, media and social media relations and operations, senior leaders communications (speech-writing), website management, video and broadcast productionFunctions resemble those of a chief of staff for senior director in the dha.
You will be part of a 40 person team that works closely with the customer, serco teammates and other partners to deliver effective communication strategies, execution plans, and team leadershipThis is an existing opportunity, and you will be joining an experience team that is firing on all cylinders!
In this role you will:
Provide oversight for strategic outreach plans, message content/themes, and analysis of communications reach and impact, and alignment with strategic communication themes for the defense health agency director
Provide oversight for strategic communications internal and external operations support teams, and alignment with strategic communication themes for the defense health agency director
Provide oversight for media relations teams, including development and distribution of media relations products to over 300,000 recipients daily, analysis of communication reach and impact and alignment with strategic communication themes for the defense health agency director
Provide oversight for social media relations teams, including development and distribution of social media content, analysis of communication reach and impact, and alignment with strategic communication themes for the defense health agency director
Provide oversight for video and broadcast production teams, including development and distribution of content, analysis of communication reach and impact, and alignment with strategic communication themes for the defense health agency director
Provide oversight for teams coordinating messages and products between the dha, the undersecretary of defense for health affairs, the joint staff, the veterans administration and the congress
Provide oversight for teams preparing speeches, articles, and other communications products for the dha director, the undersecretary of defense for health affairs, the dha deputy director
Communicate daily with the director and deputy director for dha strategic communications, periodically with the dha director and deputy director, and periodically with the undersecretary of defense for health affairs
Qualifications: to be successful in this role, you will have:
10 years experience and proficiency in strategic communications
Experience providing oversight for several complex projects/campaigns in progress simultaneously
Experience or expertise with public health or health care administration and communication campaigns
Excellent presentation skills and comfort communicating with clients
Superb organizational skills and ability to coordinate large, complex, planning across the organization
Desired qualifications include:
Public health or health care administration experience or expertise
Experience with dha, vha or dod
Comfort working at client offices and participating in internal corporate quality assurance processes
Experience in chief of staff role, supporting senior military and political leaders
