Under general supervision operates, monitors, and maintains landfill gas migration control/recovery systems; provides long-term post closure care at closed landfill sites.
Additionally may operate, monitor, and maintain other environmental pollution control systems including ves (vapor extraction systems) and gwp&t (ground water pump and treat).
Perform work in a professional, productive and safe manner.
Continually strive to improve the office’s and ones’ own, health & safety performance.
Adopt the principles of scs’s safety culture.
Understand the company’s philosophy regarding behavior based safety and play a part in eliminating unsafe practices and conditions.
Travel up to 90% in the southeast.
Reports to the regional manager, project manager, or project superintendent.
May supervise or otherwise be assisted by laborers, equipment operators, field technicians, foreman, or superintendents.
Field sampling of various test locations including wells, probes, headers, blowers, flares, pumps, etc.
Data recording and analysis.
Based on data review and consultation with supervisor, adjusts gas flow rates from wells, headers, and blowers (pumps).
Operates and maintains various analytical equipment including calibration.
Records and maintains daily field logs reporting data collected, field observations, actions taken, and recommended actions to be taken.
Reports/consults with supervisor (and in some instances client) regarding field conditions and test results.
Implements necessary routine and non-routine repairs and maintenance required to keep systems operating and in compliance with various prescribed operating parameters and goals.
Perform, supervise, and/or otherwise assist in required maintenance and repairs.
Interact/supervise/manage vendors and/or sub-contractors needed to assist with operating, monitoring, and maintenance of the control/recovery systems.
Assist supervisor with preparation of preliminary cost estimates/proposals for work to be performed (as needed).
Conduct on-site health and safety meetings (tailgate meetings) and verify that health and safety standards are followed by on-site staff and sub-contractors.
Walks the landfill with an air-monitoring instrument to perform surface emission monitoring.
Use of tools, ladders, portable saws, and generators to cut pipe to raise or repair gas well piping.
Use grinders and extrusion welding equipment to repair or expand gas system or leachate piping.
May be required to operate backhoe and/or forklifts to remove soil and lift piping and equipment to perform non-routine repairs on gas system and leachate piping.
Lift manhole covers and enter sumps or vaults to obtain well measurements or tune gas wells.
Repair leachate or condensate pumpsLift and lower repaired pumps into vaults or sumps.
Complete site check lists and inform supervisor of any changes or concerns
Participates in monthly tailgate health and safety meetingParticipates in monthly health and safety (sop) training.
Prepares daily logs for work performed on sites during workday.
Actively participate in the safe process by making observations, review and assist in the development of the project health and safety plans including the associated job task safety analyses.
7-10 years in o&m of mechanical systems or pipeline construction required.
40 hour health and safety, 8 hour management and supervisor, osha 29 cfr 1910.120, confined space entry, and trench excavation safety training preferred.
Training in polyethylene pipe fusion for construction or, combustible gas sensor and/or ground flare o&m preferred.
Experience or demonstrated high degree of aptitude in mechanical work; analytical problem solving and data analysis; interpretation of plans, specifications, schematics, manufacturer manuals, system operation and maintenance manuals; interpretation of applicable codes and regulations preferred.
Effective organizational as well as written and verbal communication skills.
Meet physical requirements for driving (pick-up truck), walking inspection of improved and unimproved property, lifting and carrying equipment/mechanical components (up to 50 lbsUnassisted), hand excavation/digging (using shovels/picks), carrying and climbing ladders, operating and working from manlifts, operating electric tools (drills, saws, etc.), using hand tools (screw drivers, wrenches, hammers, etc.) and providing services under varying weather conditions.
