Full job description
Some of what you`ll be doing:
You will work closely with information and communications technology (ict) customers, business partners and other ict teams to examine existing desktop technical architecture systems and confirm the suitability of the systems to meet business objectives and strategies.
You will participate in the design, testing and implementation of desktop technology for medium to large enterprise it projects.
You will recommend changes or specifications for new systems as needed.
You will serve as subject matter expert (sme) in the installation and support of pc based systems (pcs, laptops, and tablets, etc.), peripheral devices (printers, scanners, etc.) and software (off-the shelf or custom).
You will oversee the implementation of new systems, processes and technology in the enterprise.
You will provide support to port customers requesting assistance utilizing pc based technologies, with a range of support to include but not limited to: hardware equipment functionality, software applications, process support issues, general technical questions and emergent situations due to system failures and repairs.
You will determine root cause analysis of problems that exist or are reported by end-users.
Who you are:
Experienced – you have five (5) years of combined experience in desktop support and customer service.
Educated – you possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
Desired – we hope you have more than seven (7) years of experience in desktop support; one (1) or more years of experience with it servers, network and security; one (1) to two (2) years of hands on experience using an itil based ticket management system, but it’s okay if you don’t have these.
Cutting edge – you will bring your knowledge of current and emerging technologies to the port and your in-depth technical expertise in desktop system architecture, server architecture, network architecture, applications and how these systems work together.
Troubleshooter – you are quick in identifying issues, and arriving at viable solutions and able to diagnose problems in a complex client-server environment of a windows networked infrastructure.
Agile – you are able to juggle multiple tasks, prioritize, and perform well in situations of ambiguity while managing change.
Customer service – you have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to exceed your internal and external customers’ expectations, and utilize your ability to work in a technically complex, constantly changing and often challenging work environment, both independently and as part of a team.
What else you need to know:
Work schedule – normal work schedule is monday through friday, 8:00 a.m– 5:00 p.m(40 hours per week)On-call rotation is required that generally happens every 4 weeks.weekends and holidaysYou may be required to work during emergencies.
Work environment – will generally work in an office environment, but off-site work will be required occasionally.
Washington state residency requirement – employees must establish a residence in washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in washington state during their employment with the port of seattleIf a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in washington state.

Security requirements – as the successful candidate, you will must pass a transportation security administration (tsa) background check as well as a criminal history background check with the federal bureau of investigation (fbi)Your employment will be contingent upon obtaining a port of seattle id badge upon clearanceIn this role, you will be required to access port of seattle police department equipment, office locations, systems and/or vehiclesIn compliance with federal and state laws as the successful candidate, you will be required to pass a criminal justice information services (cjis) criminal history background check.
