As a test engineer, you will be responsible for leading the development and execution of mechanically testing next-generation productsYou’ll create test plans, and then design and create fixtures for destructive load testing, water intrusion testing, ice dam and snow load testing, solar cell resiliency testing, thermal expansion testing, and other tests as determined by the teamAs part of the engineering & manufacturing team, you’ll collaborate on interpreting results to aid in improving designs for functionality and high-volume manufacturingIn sum, you will get to break things in order to help develop and refine more robust products for solar installations! with strong leadership skills, technical acumen, and attention to detail you can help us improve the solar installation process and accelerate the global adoption of solar.
The position is based at our headquarters in richmond, ca, with flexibility to work remotely.
Develop test plans and procedures for mechanical load testing, water intrusion testing, ice dam testing, and other various conditions as required
Design and build various testing apparatuses to conduct various testing plans, utilizing on-site woodshop and cnc machine (with the help of an on-site carpenter and out-sourced welder, as necessary)
Conduct tests according to the testing plans, documenting results through videos, pictures, displacement curves, stress/strain gauge outputs, and other measuring devices
Generate test reports to review with larger engineering and manufacturing teams in order to drive product changes for more robust solutions
Liaise with 3rdparty testing facilities/agencies spearheading product certification
Manage all testing equipment and organization of the engineering lab
Implement continuous improvements and best practices with the team and offer mentorship to more junior members of the team
BSOr higher in mechanical engineering
4+ years in a mechanical engineering and product testing role
Proficiency in solidworks
Demonstrated experience in developing and carrying-out test plans and procedures
Experience using statistical analysis to evaluate test results
Strong ability to create, design and assemble test fixtures onto various test apparatus
Experience to run and operate a cnc machine is a plus
Creative capacity for developing new ways to do things better, cheaper, faster
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external teams
Mandarin or spanish speaking is a plus
