Overview: pnnl invites applications for the earth systems scientist/engineer level 1 position supporting ocean modeling and data analysis activitiesThis position is ideally suited for recent graduates in oceanography, or coastal, ocean, environmental, and civil engineering fieldsThe selected candidate(s) will join an established coastal ocean modeling team located in seattle, part of pnnl’s marine and coastal research laboratory (mcrl)Responsibilities: the scientist will participate in multi-disciplinary research through model development and diagnostic application activities related hydrodynamics, tidal circulation, storm surge and flooding, climate change, ecosystem restoration and water quality management effortsSpecific activities will include data acquisition and processing as part of model development and diagnostic application and post processing of resultsTechnical responsibilities will include preprocessing of hydrological, meteorological, and ocean monitoring data to develop model inputs as part of model setup, research and development activities targeted towards improving the model performance, and post processing of results and interpretationQualifications: minimum qualifications:
Bs/ba with 0-1 years of experience
Ms/ma with 0 years of experience
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with data analysis and processing using one or more of the following suite of software such as python, matlab, java, google earth engine
Ability to conduct web design, development, and maintenance using word press
Familiarity and exposure in conducting oceanographic modeling using one or more of the leading state-of-the art 3-d ocean modeling codes such as fvcom, roms, fvcom-icm, adcirc
Experience and/or familiarity of working in in linux environment
Knowledge of the salish sea environment and oceanographic data sets
