Summary of job profile:
The assistant general counsel is an experienced labor & employment lawyer, responsible for obria’s global employment law functionReporting administratively to orbia’s chief compliance officer, you will serve as a key legal partner to orbia’s cpo and general counsel, the people team leadership, and people team personnel on a wide variety of employment law matters, as well as compliance with global, federal and local employment lawsYour track record working in an established, multi-national corporation and true subject matter expertise, coupled with excellent communication and collaboration skills, will contribute significantly to orbia’s transformation journey.
What you’ll do:
Provide timely and practical legal advice to meet the labor/employment legal needs of a global company.
Support the people team leadership team, providing strategic legal advice on employment topics.
Provide day-to-day guidance to people team members and business leaders on a variety of employment topics, including hiring, performance management, employee relations, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour, workplace safety regulations (osha), discipline and termination, compensation, benefits, and data privacy.
Partner closely and collaboratively with investigative functions, providing day to day employment law advice relating to internal investigations.
Manage employment related litigation, including responding to attorney demand letters, effectively negotiating resolution of claims, and making recommendations to the people team and senior management on corrective action.
Oversee and manage outside counsel on employment litigation or investigations matters to ensure high-quality, cost-effective service, leveraging an established network of outside counsel.
Review and enhance employee policies, procedures, handbooks, and training to ensure compliance with international employment and labor laws.
Monitor changes to international employment and labor regulations and advise the chief people officer and chief compliance officer about necessary programmatic changes.
Exceptional problem-solving skills, excellent judgment, strategic thinking and business acumenAbility to quickly analyze and propose a course of action.
Ability to work effectively with people across all levels, cultures and geographies to build cross-functional relationships in a global, decentralized setting.

Able to travel to domestic and international offices (when covid is no longer an impediment to travel).
Honesty, integrity, and a clear appreciation for the confidentiality of the work we do.
Minimum of 8-10 years of labor & employment law experience, including at least 4-6 years as in-house counsel for an international corporationExperience working in latin america is a strong plus.
A license to practice law in the united states, with strong academic credentials.
Excellent verbal and written englishSpanish or portuguese is a strong plus.
Data privacy experience is a strong plus.
