Office depot corporation is looking for a lead research scientist to support multiple internal business and engineering groupsAs one of the initial members of the central group, you will define the team charter, build standard operating procedures (sops), and work with multiple internal business groups to build exciting data productsIf you are passionate about data and creating exceptional customer experiences, we are looking for you!
To succeed in this research scientist position, you should have strong analytical skills and ability to us ml techniques to solve business problemsResearch science skills also include familiarity with several scripting languages and hypothesis testing.

Primary responsibilities:
Work across business groups to identify and prioritize customer and business problems.
In partnership with product managers, translate business problems into analytical questions and form hypotheses which can be answered using data science techniques.
Design, develop and evaluate ml models to solve the business problems and drive business growth
Establish scalable and automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, validation and implementation.
Support business groups with ad-hoc reporting needs
Establish ai/ml best practices, build standard operating procedures which can be leveraged by other team members.
Write high-quality documents that help provide insights to leadership and gain buy-in.
Education & experience:
Level of formal education: ms in in, statistics, economics, machine learning, operations research, computer science or any other quantitative field.
Years of experience: 5+ years of experience.
Type of experience:
Implementing and deploying large scale machine learning applications and tools
Translating business requirements into science problemsIndependently define problem formulation and create scalable solutions
Language skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Technical competencies:
Previous experience as a research scientist or in a similar role
Technical expertise with statistical modeling (supervised/unsupervised learning)
Knowledge of scripting language (python, r, perl or similar)
Advanced sql and excel skills
Skills and ability:
Solid problem solving and conceptual thinking abilities
Great numerical and analytical skills
Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Comfortable in technical environments and eager to learn new systems as needed
Ability to communicate technical concepts and solutions at a level appropriate for technical and non-technical audiences
