Northrop grumman mission systems is seeking a motivated individual looking to be challenged as a staff manufacturing engineer - subtractive manufacturing (machining)The staff manufacturing engineer will support manufacturing operations engineering in baltimore, marylandShe/he will be responsible for implementation of the latest industry technology and techniques in order to optimize manufacturing cycles, tool life management, high volume and quick change tooling/fixturing in order to support unmanned manufacturing operations to implement lights out manufacturing.
The staff manufacturing engineer:
Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with manufacturing and process engineers, tool designers, computer numerical control (cnc) programmers, and machinists in the design, development, and utilization of additive manufacturing machines, subtractive manufacturing machines, and vacuum brazing technologies.
Works with design engineering to enable more producible designs coming to these machining centers, as well as inspection validating that output meets the drawing and specification requirements for the product life cycle.

Mentors more junior engineers.
Serves as sme (subject matter expert) in subtractive machining, mechanical assembly, and finishing activitiesGo-to person for solving problems encountered by the team, particularly any quality issues.
Process development and review to ensure that all processes are optimized.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with machine operators, mechanical assemblers, and finishers (paint, coating, heat transfer)The staff manufacturing engineer is also responsible for innovation and continuous improvement.
The staff manufacturing engineer must be able to work individually as well as collaborate, share, and engage in teamwork with a diverse group of other individualsThis person must also be able to work tactically and be aware of the future strategyThe chosen candidate must have the ability to train, mentor, and/or develop less experienced engineers; solid communication skills; and strong leadership, collaboration, interpersonal, and team-building skills.
Basic qualifications:
Bachelor`s degree or higher in a stem area plus 14 years of relevant work experience or 12 years of relevant work experience with a master`s degree or 9 years with a phd
Ability to read mechanical drawings and a solid understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerance, (gd&t)
Hands on knowledge and experience with manufacturing equipment/manufacturing processes
Fluency in ms office tools with a focus on documentation
Ability to obtain a us secret security clearance is requiredUs citizenship is a prerequisite.
Preferred qualifications:
Bs or higher in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, and/or industrial engineering
Project management experience
Familiarity with cad/cam systems, model development and cnc programming using nx 10.0 or equivalent highly desirable
Experience with cmms, structure light scanners, ndt, and other advanced inspection techniques
Experience with statistical process control and design of experiments
Experience with additive manufacturing, to include both metals and polymer
Experience with vacuum brazing
Experience with siemen’s teamcenter plm
Experience in implementing new designs and processes into a factory environment
Experience with as9100, iso9001
Six sigma black belt certification through an accredited university or organization
