The business intelligence (bi) engineer iii is a member of the bi team and supports data management and business intelligence initiativesAs a part of the eis team, the bi engineer helps design and deliver solutions that drive the key decisions of the sales and marketing, creative and media services, accounting, administrative, and eis departmentsThe bi engineer works within the bi team to design and implement modern data and reporting solutions using azure and power bi in addition to supporting legacy ms bi stack solutionsThe bi engineer iii works on highly complex and cross-functional bi solutionsThis position is instrumental in helping the company tackle its bi needs.
Essential functions: essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Deliver work in a collaborative, lean development environment under tight deadlines
Follow standard practices, patterns, and guidelines for database deliverables including conceptual design, deployment scripts, data migration plan and performance tuning
Participate in decisions around data architecture including datalake, azure data factory, databricks, and power bi,
Perform peer review of bi engineer designs and implementations
Performs analysis to understand business problems and business data to provide guidance on appropriate business intelligence (bi) and data solutions
Works with the data architect on transforming business requirements into bi design specifications
Act as data/information architect in support of the core internal business application development team work independently or as part of a team to design and develop analytics/reporting solutions
Actively participates in the inception, technical design, development, testing and delivery of bi solutions
Create complex transact sql (t-sql) scripts
Create/maintain etl packages using ssis, script sql agent jobs and schedules, maintain job execution and dependency metadata as needed for on-going maintenance by the production dba team
Create power bi datasets and reports to provide aggregated or ad-hoc analytics
Create reports and dashboards using power bior other self-service bi tools
Troubleshoot t-sql, ssis, adf, python, reports, dashboards, mds, and other dw/bi solutions and fix as directed
Contribute to long-term strategic vision of platform and tools
Support data management efforts and continued improvements to our internal technical infrastructure
Perform other work as assigned
Able to collaborate cross-functionally and pair-program

Able to leverage existing frameworks and patterns
Able to break solutions into parts to narrow scope of troubleshooting investigations
Able to act as a technical lead on a project and coach less-experienced individuals

Demonstrated ability to create tables, store procedures, functions, views, triggers
In-depth knowledge of the ms sql server rdbms platform with an emphasis on set-based t-sql, the sql parser/optimizer, and performance tuning
Experience with source code control and sdlc tools
Understanding and experience with azure and amazon cloud services including sql server, azure data factory, data lake, azure service bus, azure databricks using python notebooks and amazon redshift dw
Understand of and experience with azure devops builds, deploys and other automations
Able to create ms sql server integration services (ssis) packages with complex control and data flows, sequence containers with precedence constraintsMust know majority of ssis data flow transforms, when each is appropriate and understand blocking vs non-blocking transforms, and how to best use parallelism
Extensive hand-on experience in data warehouse design and architecture, dimensional/tabular modeling, data integration/services
Strong experience with dax especially in the power bi context
Experience with data warehouse design techniques including slow changing dimensions, aggregation, partitioning and indexing strategies
Ms sql server analysis services (ssas) tabular with an emphasis on power bi hosted implementations and their integration with power query and partitioned datasets
Experience/understanding of balanced scorecard and kpi’s
Proven experience implementing a master data management solution
Understanding of how to implement developer tests in a bi environment: unit, system, integration
Able to break solutions into parts to narrow scope of troubleshooting investigations
Working knowledge of cloud technologies for use in data warehouse and analytic solutions
Excellent written, verbal, and documentation skills
Proficiency with ms office (word, excel, powerpoint, visio, power pivot)
Ability to provide technical consultation to coworkers
Experience with master data services (mds)
Experience with cloud analytics
Experience working in an environment with successful data governance
Knowledge of advanced data management & processing concepts such as partitioning, sharding, and compression
Experience architecting and implementing complex operational reporting and dashboard design/layout and implementation of near-real-time graphical kpi’s
Demonstrated design portfolio of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics using multiple dashboard and reporting tools, e.g., ms power bi or other self-service bi tools
Experience and training:
Any combination of the following experience and training (designated as required and/or preferred) that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
7+ years of technical experience with at least 3+ years of experience supporting major systems.
Education: * bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, electrical/mechanical engineering, mathematics or physics preferred but not required.

Salary range & benefit options for colorado applicants:
Salary range: base salary $125,000 - $165,000 annually plus bonus - compensation is commensurate with skills & experience.
