Role summary:
This person will report directly to chief technical officer and will be part of the anode
Materials development groupThis is a full-time position based in the chattanooga, tn manufacturing facilitiesThis developer will cover multiple workstreams at the company, including equipment research and budgeting, production support and troubleshooting, process improvement, streamlining and defining development procedures, and carrying out and documenting experiments according to approved proceduresAs the development engineer, this individual will work closely with operations, development, engineering, and outside contracting groups daily to accomplish these tasksThis position will be performed primarily during standard business hours with less than 5% anticipated travel.
Responsibilities include:
Safety (10%)
Work with the safety department and process engineering to ensure safety is maintained during experimentation
Work with the safety department and engineering to assist in safety discussions, audits, and fmea activities
Process development and improvement (35%)
Design, organize, execute, and document experimentation as it relates to the production of lithium-ion anode materials
Suggest process improvements to the executive team based on the summary experimental results
Experiments include but are not limited to, process optimization, experimental processes, and next-generation material process development
Represent experimental results statistically utilizing minitab or other statistical software and organize utilizing smart goals
Build and refine systems for implementing process improvements through the existing process change management procedures
Assist the engineering and maintenance team in process failure troubleshooting and continuous improvement of quality and capital utilization
Equipment development and improvement (25%)
Research, validate, and recommend new capital equipment in conjunction with engineering and top divisional management
Provide input and team support on equipment sizing and engineering designs
Present options from an appropriate number of sources, utilizing team experience and equipment partners
Support process improvement efforts by reviewing requested process changes with the process engineering department to determine if the mechanical equipment and infrastructure can support the change
Provide feedback on the impact of those changes from an energy efficiency and equipment reliability standpoint after a change has been implemented
Project reporting and documentation development/completion (25%)
Develop and refine process change management and r&d process procedures
Utilize the procedures to define, record, report, and implement changes according to iso 9001 requirements
Work with the global development organization to ensure procedures related to development are implemented and adapted according to corporate requirements
Mentorship (5%)
Mentor and support summer interns/co-ops, as well as new engineers and other associates outside of the department, as needed
You are:
A graduate with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemistry, or a related scientific field
A professional with 3+ years of development or r&d experience
Knowledgeable with bulk material processing systems and material transfer
Able to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events)
Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Collaborative
A team player
Able to build positive relationships at all levels of the organization
Passionate about creating a great culture

A critical thinker able to manage complex information (specifically in development procedures and data reporting)

Extra awesome if you also have:
Knowledge of electrochemical systems, specifically as it relates to lithium-ion battery chemistry
Knowledge of statistical software such as minitab
Experience in experimental reporting and data analytics
Knowledge of lean/6 sigma methodology
Laboratory skills and an understanding of physical/electrochemical property characterization
