Role of deputy general manager – data platforms (data engineering, dataops)
We call it as three dimensional leadership around technology leadership, product/program management and people development.
As technology leader, the manager is expected to continuous watch/ learn from best in class from the industry around cloud & connectivity spaceKeep a technology watch on new age companies to find best tools, platform and practices that would make sense to bring to applications, platforms that we develop for complex iot usecases of connected car.
In product management role, the manager is expected to guide the team members to think product at the hands of customer and prepare relevant metrics to define data driven development approach for product/functionIt also requires close coordination with global product owners/product management team and other stakeholders to ensure successful adoption of the product.
In program management role, the manager has to bring in agile practices at scale (say safe) to define right program increments, synchronization and cadence to ensure best in class software delivered to productManager has to an agile coach himself and mentor the team on right practices.
People development: as quote goes “you take care of employees and they will take care of your business”, the fundamental element of business is peopleAs manager, it is expected to ensure continuously work on development of people in terms of technical training, new practices of software development, team building, working in international contextYou anchor culture in the team and that cascades to interfaces and larger team that you collaborate withYou are encouraged to provide continuous feedback and coaching to team (just not during appraisal cycles).

Roles & responsibilities:
Technology leader (line management) that you and your team will be responsible for
Work on data platform product vision, roadmap and goals based on larger organization/departments (relevant business partners from germany, us teams) requirements on using data as enabler for business (development, operations, monetization use cases)
Design, build, operate next generation cloud infrastructure tools for interesting automotive big data use cases ( autonomous, connected, vehicle diagnostics & many more)
Building & operating infrastructure & data engineering pipeline for data driven development, data driven operations and monetization use cases across domain
Work with data engineering teams across locations to understand the requirements and build customized immutable self-service, secure and innovative infrastructure
Support and hand-hold data science teams to on-board and use the pipeline effectively
Manage catalogue per topic or team based on services offered
Research, investigate and implement newer technologies to continually across chain of big data use cases
- people development in strong technical acumen - coaching and mentoring skills
Program stakeholder management
Qualifications & technical skills:
15+ year of software experience with bachelors/masters of engineering in computer science or equivalent degree
3+ years of experience in managing software development teams for cloud native applications, platform
Good understanding on agile and devops practice
Work experience in international context with product development mindset
Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
Proficiency in building a scalable data platform for big data use cases across enterprise using cloud technologies from providers like microsoft, amazon, google, paas, open source solutions
Expertise in data pipeline orchestration tools like azure data factory, amazon data pipeline, apache spark/ hadoop, databricks
Experience on stream-processing systems: kafka, apache storm, spark-streaming, apache flink, etc.
Handling requirements of managed services, iam, auto-scaling, high availability, elasticity, networking options
Experience in products & platforms delivery management
Experience in managing business critical portfolio(s)
System integration experience, including interface design, and familiarity with architecture techniquesComfortable and good understanding of varied technologies within the application landscape
Hands on experience on agile methods (specially across geographies)
International experience in delivery management (onsite stints)
