The engineering r & d function at medtronic engineering & innovation centre (meic), hyderabad encompasses design, development and verification activities during new product development (npd) and sustaining phases of the product development cycle for the global business unit (gbu)sThe function is accountable for both design and design transfer support for a product under developmentIt entails, but is not limited to, activities commonly carried out during the product development processExamples include software development & testing in embedded, application and mobile arena, prototype development and testing, and documentation.
This engineering manager (r & d) will serve as a functional manager to agile scrum teams working on the requirements, design, development and verification of medtronic products.
A day in the life
The engineering manager (r & d) would be accountable to sustain and maximize the engineering excellence (development & verification)This individual must build the product innovation culture and the right capabilities to ensure superior performance and value delivery through product developmentThis individual must equip the teams with the right skills, tools, and processes to deliver products in an iterative and incremental mannerThe individual shall be able to inspire, coach and grow the engineering supervisors and scrum teams with diverse skill sets and technologists
Ability to lead a team of size 20 to 30 employees, within a large, diverse mnc
Demonstrated expertise in the field of product development and product engineering
Ability to collaborate with the global engineering teams in the development and implementation of enterprise software applications that includes libraries, frameworks, testing platforms and services, and deployment methods that can help build vertical solutions for various business needs
Demonstrated expertise in lean/agile/xp processes and an understanding of the environment and tools required for efficient and effective delivery of innovative and high-performance software and solutions
Demonstrated expertise in building and developing strong software talent
Ability to mentor and coach a strong technical team to maximize their potential
Ability to build strong software capabilities in the design, development and verification & validation areas.
Drive productivity improvements in software development and establish software best practices
Ability to help establish software metrics & recommend the processes for measurement and improvement
Experience in the areas of design for lean six sigma, quality through design and systems engineering
Knowledgeable in iec standards such as 60601, 62304, hl7, fhir and iso 11073 is a plus
Knowledge in firmware development and hardware design is a plus
Good understanding of the architecture trends and emerging technologies
Ability to contribute to the development of product and technology roadmaps and strategy
Demonstrated expertise in delivering to the commitments and to the expectations of the business units
Demonstrated experience in excellent communication and interpersonal skills, negotiating; managing change; goal setting; planning and organizing teamwork; ability to address difficult situations;
Must possess managerial courage; must be confident managing risks and making decisions that will likely have a large impact on the organizational objectives
Good financial acumen; strong mathematical and financial capabilities

Up to 15 % travel internationally and domestic.
Plans, directs and implements all aspects of the company`s design and development of new medical device products or software systems.
May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products.
Oversees the investigation and evaluation of existing technologies.
Guides the conceptualization of new methodologies, materials, machines, processes or products.
Directs the development of new concepts from initial design to market release.
Manages feasibility studies of the design to determine if capable of functioning as intended.
Monitors documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development.
Organizes the coordination of activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery.
Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.

Masters or bachelors in engineering or technology in computer science, or related field is required
Minimum of 12 years of experience in a techno-managerial role, managing software product development
Minimum of 5 years of people management and program management experience within r & d engineering
Critical experience in handling large to medium new product development in design, development & verification of software application on desktop, web, mobile, embedded and cloud platforms
Experience in microsoft (c#, .net) and j2ee (java, spring, web services, rest, apis) technology stacks
Experience in native and hybrid mobile app technologies such as java, objective-c, xamarin, ionic and cordova
Experience in digital connectivity (iot) such as cloud, ble, wearables, sensors and edge intelligence
Experience in devops technologies such as jenkins, ansible, gradle, elasticsearch, dockers and splunk
Experience in extreme programming practices such as test-driven/behavior-driven development
Knowledge and/or experience in fda design controls and medical software is preferred
Knowledge and/or experience in design thinking and agile dual-track development is preferred
Prior experience working with cross-cultural teams is preferred
Certification in agile scrum / safe agile is required
Nice to haves
Certification in software technology is desired
Certification in lean and six sigma is desired
Certification in pmi pmp is desired
Certification in systems engineering is desired
