The maryland department of transportation the secretary’s office (mdot tso) is seeking to fill multiple minority business enterprise (mbe) officer ii positionsThe mbe officer ii is responsible for the certification or recertification of a business as a federal disadvantaged business enterprise and/or minority business enterpriseThe work of this classification involves determining if mbe status is appropriate by interviewing business owners, employees, and project engineers; conducting on-site inspections; analyzing financial and legal documents; preparing written reports of the findings; investigating allegations of fraud and program abuse, and testifying at hearingsThis position is also responsible for determining eligibility in accordance with the standards set forth by comar and federal usdot regulations; participating in community outreach activities and mbe program events; and providing north american industry classification system (naics) code information to mdot transportation business units (tbus), prime contractors and mbe subcontractors or a combination of the aboveEmployees in this classification may be required to work evenings and weekend hours.

Education: a bachelor`s degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: one year of experience investigating regulated activities to ensure compliance with federal, state or municipal laws; or overseeing program and business development activities; or coordinating and conducting community outreach activities and events; or monitoring contracts for compliance.
The ideal candidate will possess experience performing comprehensive investigative work and excellent communication and customer service skills.
