In this new role, you will amplify our public policy positions, communicate the value of new research on aging services, tell the important stories of our provider members, and help us make america a better place to grow old for our country’s 52 million older adultsYou’ll leverage your messaging and media relations skills to advance leadingage’s impact through this hands-on role—managing daily reporter engagement and outreach, and collaborating with the media relations director, senior leaders, spokespeople, policy experts, communications staff, and agencies, as well as leadingage nonprofit, mission-driven membersYou will create messaging and media materials, and implement strategic public relations plans that help achieve leadingage’s mission to be the trusted voice for aging.
Qualifications, knowledge & skills required:
Excellent writing and editing skills
Strong organizational abilities, critical thinking, and attention to detail
Ability to multitask, work quickly to meet deadlines, and manage multiple assignments at once
Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, journalism or a related field plus a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in hands-on media relations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated experience working with traditional media, writing materials for public distribution, conducting policy and media research, and coordinating media interviews and events
Proven expertise with online media software (e.g., cision, meltwater)
Desired skills and qualifications:
Familiarity with and/or interest in health care, public policy, advocacy, social issues, nonprofits
Prior work or internship experience in communications, journalism, political campaigns, marketing or issue advocacy
Experience with social media and experience using social media to engage reporters and amplify media coverage
Serve as the primary manager of media queries, responding quickly by coordinating with subject matter experts across the organization, and drafting replies.
Develop and maintain strategic media relationships with trade, national and local news outlets to promote leadingage as a thought leader and go-to source
Write, edit and post written statements such as press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, grassroots advocacy external announcements, and media quotes
Identify and develop stories for storytelling opportunities to publish and pitch across a variety of media
Coordinate meeting, calls and project timelines
In collaboration with media relations director, prepares internal spokespeople for media interviews, including composing talking points, staffing interviews, and conducting follow-up with reporters
Develop and maintain targeted media lists
Manage special projects, serve as back-up for team members, and perform other duties as assigned

Normal work requires frequent use telephone and computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse).
Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
Periodic local and national overnight travel required.
Ability to be mobile at annual meeting; leadership summit conference; and other meetings and events
May require standing for prolonged periods of time during meetings and conferences.
