As a member of the financial risk governance team within the controllership organization, you will be responsible for monitoring, identifying, implementing, and maintaining financial controls while also working to improve the operational effectiveness of processes within the scope of keycorp`s financial risk governance programThis role has exposure to and works closely with a breadth of business partners across the organization including finance, banking group, key technology, operations & services, and the internal and external audit teams as you collaborate to ensure a sound and efficient financial control environmentEssential job functions
Design, optimize, and assess internal controls over financial reporting as required by the sarbanes-oxley act and fdicia via: walkthroughs to identify controls and/or control gaps; evaluation of test of control; and research/escalation to assess the level of deficiency as necessary
Seek continuous improvement within the sox program by promoting efficiencies and automation in control design and testing, especially as it pertains to ongoing finance transformation efforts
Assist in the completion of quarterly comfort letter and 302 certification activities to support an effective sox/icfr conclusion and the timely issuance of complete and accurate financial statements
Facilitate activities with third party auditors to aid in their completion of the attestation of internal controls via quality review of inputs and coordination of any non-routine issues through conclusion
Evaluate third-party service providers for effective control objectives and it general controls relied upon in key business processes
Review and assess issues identified during audits over financial reporting (internal, external, regulatory) for control deficiencies, identify root causes, and design and implement sustainable remediation efforts in conjunction with business process owners
Assist in the development of the presentation to the disclosure committee
Create effective communication while building and sustaining collaborative relationships with internal and external partners
Achieve finance group objectives and assist in delivering value-added results to the finance organization
Other financial risk governance, continuous improvement projects/activities, and related responsibilities as assigned.
Required qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Comprehensive and current understanding of accounting and financial reporting obtained through relevant coursework, internship, or work experience
Understanding of sarbanes-oxley and coso framework requirements pertaining to internal controls over financial reporting
Knowledge of financial business processes to identify opportunities for control and process improvement; and of internal controls to ensure controls can be sustained by each process improvement
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills (prioritization/time management; teamwork/collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, etc.)
Ability to build and manage relationships among cross-functional teams, including various levels of leadership
Preferred qualifications
1+ years’ work or internship experience in public accounting, audit or risk management, ideally within banking or the financial services industry
Experience performing or evaluating processes related to internal controls, financial reporting, or audit
Familiarity with grc tools (archer, workiva) and/or cloud-based financial systems (i.eWorkday) a plus
It/cis background and/or experience a plus
