Igs is currently recruiting for an bioinformatician ii to support our work with the national cancer institute (nci).
Assignment of work and travel:
This is a remote access assignmentCandidate will work remotely daily and will remotely access hhs systems and therein use approved hhs provided communications systemsTravel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested.
Responsibilities and duties (included but not limited to):
Provide high level expertise in the application of information technology to biological, biomedical, and population research
Use computational tools to gather and analyze data in fields including but not limited to genomics, epidemiology, clinical trials, and imaging, using methods such as statistics, mathematics, advanced visualization, simulations, and/or machine learning
Provide expertise across a wide variety of informatics and data science areas as applied to discovery biology, clinical decision support, and public health
Provide expertise in the integration of a variety of heterogeneous biomedical information systems and databases and support the sharing and dissemination of this information
Requirements:
Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the individual’s field of study and specialization and master’s degree required in the specific subject matter
A bachelor’s degree in biology/computer science/engineering plus four (4) years of additional directly related work experience over and above the minimum experience requirements for this position may be substituted for the master’s degree
Must demonstrate the ability to work independently or under only general direction
Impeccable attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to multi-task under pressure
Excellent written and communication skills
Ability to obtain and maintain an hhs public trust
Preferred qualifications and core competencies:
Current hhs public trust
Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment
Previous, experience supporting nih institutes, specifically nci
Knowledge, expertise, and experience in supporting biomedical and/or research information technology and informatics highly desirable
Knowledge and experience with nci processes, procedures, technologies, and applications is highly desirable
Experience working on federal government contracts, preferably centered around cancer research, health informatics, cancer biology or clinical trials
