The us communications team is focused on supporting the commercial outcomes of the businesses and achieving a favorable perception of hsbc among its stakeholdersThe role holder will work to help enhance the reputation of the bank, through a compelling story about growth and transformation and position hsbc a credible voice on four identified reputation themes, with our target audiences.
The role holder will work in partnership with the us communications team, group communications and other global functions to focus on proactive external communications and provide strategic communications counsel.
Responsibilities will encompass the full spectrum of integrated communications activities including media relations, social media, content creation, employee communications and issues management.
Impact on the business
Build, protect and enhance the group’s reputation through clear and impactful strategic employee and proactive external communications in support of reputation themes.
Develop a deep understanding of business-line activity and how this can be amplified through external communications, to enhance our global reputation.
Establish strong relationships with priority media targets to deliver coverage for relevant global campaigns and positioning for the global businesses that reinforces hsbc’s leadership on priority global themes.
Ensure consistent messaging reflecting hsbc’s personality and purpose across print, broadcast, digital and social media.
Identify opportunities for cross-border and cross-business media activity in support of key trade/business corridors or collaboration efforts.
Manage and mitigate arising issues, by building strong relationships with business stakeholders to ensure early warning and sharing of information.
Using insight from hsbc’s internal measurement (snapshot, exchange) proactively develop and advise on employee communications that address strategic objectives and specific audiences.
Collaborate effectively with other communications teams to deliver global employee campaigns locally, ensuring appropriate use of channels and language for the country audience.
Support culture and business change that encourages behaviors that reflect our values, supports hsbc’s strategy.
Customers and stakeholders
Manage both employee and external communications for in-country functions and lobs, reporting to the head of communications, usa.
Monitor, measure and report on media coverage of the bank, including digital and social mediaEvaluate the success of earned and paid media placements in building corporate reputation and mitigating crises, and utilize learnings from outcomes to inform future strategic outreach.
Proactively seek out and identify media opportunities — as well as situations that could adversely impact the bank’s reputation— and coordinate strategies and tactics to promote and protect the integrity of hsbc.
Leadership & teamwork
Actively support, coach and develop communications talent across the function and mobilize junior colleagues.
Collaborate with global communications to develop, coordinate and implement public relations & communications plans to achieve group initiatives.
Personally demonstrate a high standard of hsbc’s values and adhere to all communications set governance and policies.
Comply with group policies and procedures and maintain all required records.
Comfortable dealing with and advising senior stakeholders
Work closely with other external-facing teams in communications, public affairs, marketing, investor relations, human resources, etcTo ensure seamless alignment of external messaging.
Work with the internal communications teams to develop a stakeholder adoption, engagement and communications framework to ensure that the digital workplace is successfully embedded across the businesses and functions.
Develop strong stakeholder relationships within relevant business areas and collaborate with these stakeholders to develop and influence story ideas.
Work seamlessly within the communications function matrix.

Ability to navigate the complexities of hsbc with speed and sensitivity, both within the communications function globally and among all other functions and businesses.
Experience in developing and implementing effective communication strategies, specifically proactive earned media and campaigning.
Experience dealing with tier one international media.
Experience effectively working with digital and social media platforms.
Experience in complex risks and issues management.
Experience in creative communications development, thought leadership, and associated measurement strategies.
Strong breadth of knowledge of financial services industry, global marketplace and trends.
