As part of the display and optics organization at meta, our team`s mission is to design and develop core optical technologies, modules and sub-systems for next generation ar/vr displaysIn this role, you will be responsible for optical design, development and product integration of novel optical modulesYou will have the opportunity to be part of a team composed of world class engineers and leaders defining the field of ar/vrCome join our rapidly growing team, and be part of the journey to bring future near eye displays to life!
Lead optical engineer (research and development) responsibilities:
Conceptualize, design and develop new optical modules for future near-eye displays (neds), such as illumination modules and display engines.
Research and identify emerging concepts in display, illumination and imaging optics domains to influence technology roadmaps.
Build predictive optical models, validate designs and models with measured data to close the loop.
Define and develop hardware specifications to assess overall performance of novel optical architectures, through rigorous tolerance analysis, assessing manufacturing capabilities and understanding customer-facing requirements.
Support prototyping build and system integration activities at external vendors.
Support design validation, lab characterization and failure analysis of optical modules and systems.
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%).
Bachelor`s degree in computer science, computer engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Phd degree in the field of optical engineering, physics, electrical engineering or related degree.
5+ years of experience in developing optical modules or systems in highly multidisciplinary environments, including optical design, setting specifications, determining test methods, and overall module and system integration.
3+ years of experience working with external vendors to deliver custom optical components, modules, or systems, where challenging optical requirements drive innovative fabrication process development, and new opto-mechanical integration and metrology techniques.
Experience with one or more of the following optics domains: imaging optics, lens design, illumination, radiometry and photometry, geometric or physical optics, or opto-mechanical engineering.
Experience working with optical design software such as zemax, codev or lighttools.
Experience with multiple full life cycle product launches.
Familiarity with display technologies such as oleds, lcds, and lcos.
Experience working with external partners to build, integrate, test and troubleshoot optical components and modules.
