Summary: the junior firefighting system engineer under oversight, direction and guidance from senior degreed engineers, will provide full-time onsite engineering and technical support for the systems, subsystems and equipment contained in the duties and responsibilities section.
Duties and responsibilities:
Provides engineering support for the following systems: aqueous film-forming foam (afff), co2, halon and heptafluoropropane (hfp) systems, aqueous potassium carbonate (apc), countermeasure washdown (cmwd), motor gasoline (mogas), fire, main drainage and flushing pumps and valves, temporary fire-main protection system, pumps and valves, flame and smoke ejection system, water mist, saltwater sprinklers, fire-main system piping.
Reviews shipboard temporary fire protection plan by accomplishing friction and elevation loss calculations to determine the location of the most hydraulically remote station.
Prepares layout and detail drawings and sketches for varied and complex design projects using computer aided drafting software.
Responds to engineering services request (esr).
Interfaces with cheng and deputy cheng to address ship non-conformances, assess risk, and provide recommendations for new and existing firefighting systems and material dfss.
Coordinates with other engineering personnel, production and maintenance team, ships force, navsea, iseas, nswcs, rmcs, and others as required to develop solutions for firefighting systems related issues.
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related stem major.
Zero to (2) years full-time experience with u.sNavy firefighting systems repair and modernization.
Ability to utilize computers including the microsoft office suite for compiling information for reports and history files and transfer digital pictures from camera to computer and enhance as required and label them for report purposes.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to obtain/maintain a dod secret security clearance.
Previous private and/or public shipyard experience
Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise.
Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways (onboard ships).
Employee may be required to travel to different rmcs or naval ship locationsTravel may include extended underway periods and travel outside of the continental united states.
Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbsIn weight.
Ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp.
Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Ability to wear a respirator.
Frequently lifts, carries and helps setup tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 50 lbs.
May be required to onboard ships to inspect tanks, voids and spaces.
May be required to to travel to different rmc`s or naval ship locationsTravel may include extended underway periods and travel outside of the continental united states.
