Mission (why does this role exist?) and scope (about the job):
Responsible for all inventory accounting and other cost of sales (ocogs) accounting, including duties associated with the monthly financial close, maintaining a strong internal control environment and maintaining the accuracy of physical inventory.
In this highly cross-functional role, you will partner with finance, operations, it and engineering teams in the course of the day-to-day inventory accounting activities, evaluation and design of it system changes and uat approaches, as well as be responsible for key management estimates such as valuation risks.
This position requires excellent analytical skills, oracle r12 system skills, advanced excel skills, experience in inventory management, and the ability to perform at a high level in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities and outcomes (what the person needs to accomplish in the role?)
Ensure the timeliness, accuracy, and completeness of month-end close activities for inventory and all cogs transactions, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and roll-forwards.
Preparation and analysis for effective understanding for inventory reserves, purchase price variance, standard cost variance, inventory adjustments, contract manufacturer buydown, scrap, freight, duties and tariffs.
Partner with finance, operations, it and engineering teams to design and implement process and system updates in support of new initiatives with an impact to inventory.
Lead system and process optimization projects within the overall procure-to-pay process, in partnership with it, buyer and ap teams to drive operational efficiencies.
Own the continual development and execution of control structures for inventory accounting in accordance with 404 requirements; serve as a thought partner for operation and buyer teams.
Act as main point of contact in finance organization for all inventory and cogs related queries.
Coordinate the year end physical inventory and regular cycle count process with operations team and auditors.
Ensure practices are in place to prepare and maintain schedules and supporting documentation needed for quarterly reviews and annual audits and tax filings.
Ad hoc reporting and analytical support for operations and finance teams.
Qualifications: education, competencies (knowledge, skills & behavior) and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration and cpa/ca/cima.
8-10 years of experience in inventory accounting and control.
Solid accounting and finance foundation surrounding supply chain operations, inventory accounting and procure-to-pay process.
Previous oracle experience is required.
Advanced excel skills are required.
Strong communicator, analytical mind and always thinking of ways to streamline and improve processes.
Strong organizational and detail-orientation skills and ability to handle multiple competing tasks simultaneously.
Strong technical accounting and detailed understanding of us gaap.
Strong personal integrity and highest ethical standards.
