Working from their home office and partly from houston, texas, the assistant manager of special populations will assist in managing instructional programs for students with special needs and ensuring compliance for all programsThrough use of the telephone, internet and various curriculum tools, the assistant manager will consult regularly with pearson virtual school staff, houston isd staff, tcah staff, learning coaches and students to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her instructional programThe assistant manager will participate in some steps of the child find, 504, dyslexia, el and gt processThe assistant manager will work closely with other teachers and district professionals to ensure that the school’s special population programs are successful and operating in compliance with federal, state regulations and district requirementsThe assistant manager will utilize technology to deliver virtual trainings.
The assistant manager of special populations will ensure that the school is providing appropriate programs in the least restrictive environment for all students with special needsThis includes being a resource to the student support teams, assist with supervision of the pre-referral and 504/iep/el processes, maintaining student data, communication with parents, and ensuring that the school operates in compliance with all law and procedures at all times.
The assistant manager of special populations will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:
Assist in the management of the implementation of the school’s 504, el, dyslexia, including procedures for child find, 504 and lpac development, placement, evaluation and re-evaluation of students with disabilities;
Support the mission and operations of the school to help students successfully complete their instructional and career pathway programs;
Collaborate with the corporate staff, campus staff and members of the houston independent school district personnel;
Assist in maintaining documentation within the all 504/el/dyslexia programs and the student information system, and the education management system that captures and organizes special populations timelines and data;
Assist in the management of the enrollment process for students with 504, or el from inquiry to enrollment and 504/lpac/dyslexia team action;
Assist in the supervision of the coordination of the set-up and delivery of el/dyslexia mandated services to students;
Communicate and consult with all teachers, administrators and learning coaches regarding the instructional program for students with disabilities or other special needs;
When needed, attend 504/el/dyslexia/gt meetings as district rep;
Routinely review 504/el/dyslexia/gt documents for compliance alignment;
Assist in the development, tracking, dissemination and proper implementation of 504/el/dyslexia plan mandated accommodations for students with special needs during state testing events;
Communicate directly with parents, as needed, to answer questions;
Develop a working knowledge of connections academy’s curricular options, and how they can be adapted and implemented to meet specific student needs; introduce new ways of supporting special needs students in a virtual environment;
Provide supervision to tcah staff, as needed;
Assist in the planning, implement, and evaluate staff in-service and/or training activities; and
Other duties as assigned.
Principal certification with leadership experience;
Current and valid texas certification;
Experience and working knowledge in a minimum of one of the following areas: 504, el, and/or dyslexia;
Special education knowledge preferred (not required);
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written;
High degree of flexibility;
Demonstrated ability to work well in fast-paced environment;
Technologically proficient (especially with google and microsoft office products);
Some travel required.
