Full job description
The physical substation electrical engineer will be responsible for the design and/or checking of general arrangements, equipment plans, elevations, sections, control house layouts, grounding design, lightning protection, lighting layouts, conduit and cable design, bills of material, and cable schedulesEngineer will be expected to perform their project activities to an acceptable level of quality and according to project schedules.
Roles and responsibilities:
Knowledge of major substation equipment, the functions of that equipment, and ability to select and specify substation equipment
Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards
Knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical
Substation
Knowledge of electrical calculations required to design an electrical substation
Verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work in a team environment
Ability to meet industry, client, and internal standards and/or best practices
Mentor less experienced engineers and designers
Understands and adheres to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
Develops engineering cost estimates for proposals.
Preparation of equipment specifications, bid evaluations and procurement recommendations.
Development of physical electrical design submittals
Ability to work on multiple projects at a time
Travel to client offices and job sites
Coordinates with client and internal project management team
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an abet-accredited program requiredProfessional engineer (pe) license requiredAt least three years of physical electrical design experience in substation demonstrating continuous growth and knowledge expansionExperience in leading design for substation physical electrical projects including: substation layout and electrical design for voltages ranging from lv up to ehv transmission level voltages, scoping, engineering cost estimating, and proposal supportThe successful candidate must be eligible to work in the united states.
