The project engineer, cost optimization position is for an established engineering professionalThe role is structured within the interiors supply chain services organization but will support the specific needs of the interior products, seating and service and support businesses.
In the role, the individual will partner with the product engineering, corporate engineering, commodity management, supply chain and operations to identify, lead and deliver cost reduction projectsThis role requires a technical knowledge of several manufacturing disciplines to objectively critique and recommend cost driven improvementsThe role also requires fundamental working knowledge of data analytics and engineering principles like electronics, thermodynamics and materials to determine cost savings opportunitiesIn the role, the individual will also contribute to new product development projects to avoid cost overages and improve marginSkills include a combination of project management, engineering/manufacturing knowledge and a proven ability to integrate and function in multiple cross-functional teams.
Job summary and responsibilities:
Typically works with limited supervision and is self-motivated to achieve cost savings objectives impacting supply chain strategies and operational goals.
Work all three streams of cost management: sourcing, negotiation and engineering.
Leads efforts to optimize cost, minimize risk, increase cash, and eliminate waste at the program and commodity level.
Use cad and data analytics to evaluate designs and generate details necessary to propose cost savings.
Work with site specific ipt groups to execute the cost savings projects through redesign, certification and sourcing.
Challenge existing design concepts and technology choices to ensure products are designed to optimize cost and quality.
Drives for cultural change in design/sourcing practices to enable significant product cost savings
Monitors new products/technologies available on the market to satisfy project requirements and reduce costs.
Tracks and socializes alternative technologies and associated implications on cost, quality and risk.
Willingness and ability to travel ~25% domestically and internationally.
Minimum requiremenets:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience or
Advanced degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or
In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
Engineering/other technical positions: bachelor’s degree (typically in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (stem)) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations.
Must be a u.sPerson/permanent resident “green card” holder
Preferred requirements:
Understands aerospace certification, faa/airframe requirements, experience in navigating through the engineering change process.
Familiar with aerospace supplier quality, engineering, manufacturing and material control requirements.
Experience in delivering value engineering projects.
Experience working in a matrix organization.
Design-to-cost / should-cost analysis with apriori
Experience using and/or willingness to learn and use nx and teamcenter
Self-starter with proven track record of implementing/executing complex projects.
Working knowledge of aerospace commodities (metals, composites and plastics).
Analytical skills and ability to furnish a business case.
Experience working with cad software such as nx, solidworks, pro-e, and/or catia.
Ideal candidates for this role have held multi-faceted positions in design and manufacturing engineering.
Working knowledge of aerospace commodities (pcb, pcba, wiring, metals, composites and plastics).
Proficient in microsoft office (outlook, excel, word, access) applications.
