Collins aerospace’s global engineering center in puerto rico (gec-pr) is seeking an experienced modeling and simulation engineer in thermal/fluids analysis to work on existing and next generation of commercial and military applications.
Modeling and simulation engineers:
Are responsible for developing advanced system models to support design, r&d, manufacturing, and operations.
Apply scientific principles to analyze, innovate, design, develop, and implement technologies, components, sub-systems, machines, tools, and systems to ensure compliance to specifications, requirements, and customer guarantees across applicable operating conditions.
Ensure novel ideas and implementations are captured and protected using applicable ip processes and tools.
Engineers in this role use a combination of commercial and in-house developed software tools, and/or hand calculation methods to correlate analysis models, review test results, present results at program reviews, and prepare reports to document progress and execution.
Projects supporting military and commercial applications include turbomachinery, propellers, flow control surfaces, landing and braking systems, thermal management systems, to cite a few.
This position will sit at our aguadilla, pr location but can begin working remotely, within puerto ricoCandidate must be residing in puerto rico at the time of starting employment.

Provide analytical support through all product/technology development phases including design, redesign, and tests for components and systems.
Perform analysis related to heat transfer, computational fluid dynamics, aerothermodynamics, hydrodynamics, aerodynamics, and mechanical elements in support of commercial and defense programs.
Participate in cross-discipline integrated product teams to provide design solutions that balance performance, cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
Develop and incorporate new ways to advance technology and improve processes as an individual and as a team contributorEmbrace a continuous improvement philosophy.
Documents progress and communicates effectively.
Develops and sustains a collaborative network based on mutual trust with peers, internal and external customers.
Works autonomously with limited supervision on larger, moderately complex projects/assignments meeting project deliverables in time, with quality and on budget.
Sets objectives for own area of responsibility to meet the objectives or goals of projects and assignments.
Attends and actively participates in group meetings, communities of practice, teleconferences and/or training required.
Actively participates in initiatives for continuous improvement.

Provides support to senior engineers and management in mentoring early career engineers.
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years prior relevant experience (mechanical engineering, applied mechanics or aerospace engineering)
In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required
Effective communication and presentation skills in english (verbal and written).
Candidate must be a u.s citizen.
2+ years of prior experience in the aerospace industry or equivalent academic experience during a msme degree with focus on thermal sciences.
Experience with modeling and simulation software including ansys-cfx, ansys-fluent, star-ccm+, ansys workbench, siemens nx.
Experience with programing languages / scripting including python, c++, fortran, matlab, apdl.
Strong mechanical aptitude to understand the interactions of complex assemblies and how to translate those interactions into sound analytical assumptions for the development of computational models.
Experience in performing detailed analysis with a strong academic background in the areas of computational fluid dynamics (cfd), heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and computer programming.
Demonstrated experience working with scientists and engineers to formulate cfd models and establish simulation requirements.
