The mission systems strategic business unit (sbu) in collins aerospace is executing a digital engineering transformation program (detp) to reshape mission systems’ culture, way of working, and development environment into a digital engineering (de) oneThe detp is looking for an engineer to lead the detp hardware engineering thread to define and design the hardware digital engineering solution that enables electrical and mechanical engineering teams to rapidly develop high quality model based definition (mbd) solutions for military customers like the united states (us) department of defense (dod)The solution scope includes the full spectrum of culture, workflows, measures of success, toolchains, training, and continuous improvement of the mbd solutionThe solution will be interoperable across teams internal to the business, as well as external suppliers, partners, and customers.
The detp hardware digital engineering stakeholders include the full spectrum of de threads: model-based systems engineering (mbse), hardware, authoritative virtualization (av), workforce and culture, infrastructure services, lifecycle governance and compliance, and downstream organizations like procurement and manufacturing.
Enable product development teams to adopt mbd practices by removing constraints and improving development lifecycle flow while increasing hardware design quality, capability, and safety.
Responsible for leading the development and continuous improvement of the mission systems dee solution for hardware development through mbd practicesCapture needs, priorities, and timing for mbd capabilities by collaborating across all portfolios in the mission systems strategic business unit (sbu), collins aerospace digital technologies, collins aerospace enterprise engineering, service and support, the detp team, and other stakeholders in the program hardware lifecycle.
Support the detp lead systems engineer (lse) to capture the mbd contribution to the detp value proposition framework that enables the business to clearly visualize and assess the value and performance of mb capabilitiesThis includes the means and methods for defining, capturing, reporting, and evaluating mbd capability investment, performance, and returnDesigns, develops and maintains dashboards showing mbd metrics, measures, performance and continuous improvement.
Ensure the dee solution enables hardware teams to meet external and internal corporate governance; identify areas of internal governance, process, policy, and procedure to enhance the dee.
Selects, configures, and integrates tools for improved hardware development flow using mbd practices.
Architects, implements and continuously improves mbd workflows with continuous authority to operate (c-ato) for cybersecurity compliance.
Enables hardware development teams to automate artifact generation and manage product lifecycle reducing constraints in compliance approvals.
Champions mbd practices across the mission systems sbu
Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience or
Advanced degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or
In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required
Engineering/other technical positions: bachelor’s degree (typically in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (stem)) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
Must be a u.sCitizen
Must have or be capable of obtaining a us department of defense (dod) security clearanceCandidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements
Must be able to travel domestically and internationally 10% of the time
Experience with mbd, electrical, and mechanical engineering practices, including tools, data ontologies and interfaces, governance, and compliance.
Experience with the full electrical and mechanical hardware development lifecycle of products from early technology maturation; to pursuit and order capture; design and development; production; and in-field service and support.
Knowledge of product lifecycle management (plm) and product data management (pdm) systems relating to mbd and hardware design delivery
Posses an active dod security clearance
