The united states is moving into a new chapter of welcome for refugees and immigrantsAs a result, cws is looking for a passionate communicator to raise the voices and share the stories of our new neighborsThe communications specialist, welcoming communities will work with the nationwide network of offices and affiliates within the cws immigration and refugee program.

Training and support for cws refugee resettlement network
In their role as the liaison to cws immigration and refugee program offices, the communications specialist, welcoming communities, will offer resources, training and support for communicators and staff within those teamsThis includes:
Convening a communications working group and community of practice for sharing content, resources and best practices among local office staff members responsible for communications and community engagement.
Establishing a schedule, facilitating and hosting, when appropriate, training sessions on communications topics for staff, such as social media strategy, messaging or conducting press interviews.
Establishing and maintaining regular check-ins with each office to foster coordination and collaboration between local resettlement offices and headquarters.
Creating resources and toolkits for local office staff to help them as they pursue their own communications, social media and community engagement goals.
Providing writing, editing and proofreading support to local office teams as appropriate for local publications such as stories or newsletters.
Working with local office staff to develop press and promotion plans for local events and volunteer opportunities
Supporting local community sponsorship outreach efforts for cws resettlement offices through content creation and strategy development.
Working with the cws communications team to develop and execute strategies for publicly announcing new cws local resettlement sites to local communities.
The communications specialist, welcoming communities will serve as the cws communications team liaison to dozens of cws resettlement offices and affiliates nationwideIn this role, they will:
Curate a repository of client stories from across the cws network that can be used for external campaigns, including the cws website, social media, print materials and press.
Connect reporters to appropriate contacts for quotes and interviews.
Partner with the cws organizing team to amplify refugee organizer and advocate voices as well as local campaigns and events.
Coordinate with other members of the communications team as well as local office and affiliate staff to hire professional photographers and videographers.
Gather stories, photos and other content to mark holidays or occasions.
Engagement within the communications team
The communications specialist, welcoming communities is a member of the cws communications teamAs part of this team, they will:
Engage with the director of program communications and social media manager to plan campaigns and curate the needed content.
Engage with the director of media and media associate to match reporters with appropriate leads and stories.
The communications specialist, welcoming communities also performs other duties as assigned.
A minimum of a b.a./b.sIn journalism, communications or a related field; or comparable professional experience.
2-3 years of relevant work experience in a professional setting.
Expertise in crafting compelling and engaging stories is required.
Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant communities is required.
Experience creating content for social media is preferred.
Experience engaging with the press is preferred.
Experience working in a local refugee resettlement office is preferred.
Strong writing skills with fluency and comfort writing and editing in english.
Comfort with working virtually with colleagues across time zones.
Skill at editing content diplomatically and collaboratively.
Skill at organizing and managing projects to ensure timely completion within budget.
Professionalism and enthusiasm when engaging with colleagues and partners on the phone, by email and in person.
Ability to speak multiple languages, especially spanish, french, arabic, somali, burmese, or farsi.
Skill with design software such as canva or the adobe suite.
Familiarity with posting and updating content using wordpress.
