Full job description
Senior engineer – research and development (serd) position, is to design new products for the north america marketThe serd does this by being accountable for the creation of concepts and design solutions from initiation to productionLeveraging company’s resources, the serd ensures product design and quality standards are satisfied to meet both company internal and industry standardsIn addition, it is the responsibility of the serd position to ensure that products meet all defined project requirements, cost, customer needs, testing, and product documentation.
Reporting to: engineering manager – research and development
Essential functions:
· responsible for preparing concepts and design solutions for new products from initiation to production
· prepare design concepts, 3d models or drawings for systems, components and sub-assemblies using 3-d cad and cae solid modeling software
· performs routine engineering investigations in support of current research or product development efforts using engineering design tools
Essential experience/skills/knowledge:
· demonstrated knowledge of applied mechanical engineering in product design and evaluationExperience in the new product development process
· understanding and experience in product design and development including the use of tools such as fea, risk analysis, dfma, and gd&t
· demonstrates expertise in problem solving techniques and methodologies, strong prototyping/design validation model building skills and static/dynamic analytical skills
Core functions:
· design and create detailed engineering specifications ensuring proper tolerancing and design for manufacturability
· reviews relevant competitive products to provide benchmarking and analysis of technical specifications
· identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyzes information skillfully
· coordinate with manufacturing at suitable stages such as at initial design to evaluate the design’s ability to optimize for manufacturing in an efficient and economical manner
· ensure compliance to the requirements of osha standards, referencing aci, asme, ansi and ssfi standards
Knowledge/skills:
· strong aptitude for hands-on engineering problem solving skills
· expert use of 2d and 3d cad tools, including basic analysis tools (fea, stress, bending, etc.).
· ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and external customers and provide training and coaching to engineering and sales team members
· open to other’s ideas and exhibits a willingness to try new things
· self-motivated with a strong competitive drive, a resilient nature and a goal and results oriented mindset
· ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
Education/qualifications:
· demonstrates proficiency in 3d cad modeling part and assembly models
· experienced in the phases and requirements of the npd process
· post-secondary education degree in mechanical, production engineering or other related engineering discipline
· construction and/or formwork industry experience is an asset
· proficient in microsoft office application and computer skills with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to utilizing new technology/software
