Overview: air is currently seeking a researcher to join air’s health division which focuses on issues that impact the health and well-being of all populationsAir’s work generates evidence to help patients, families and clinicians make health decisions and inform policymakers, leaders, and practitioners as they work to improve access and quality and reduce health inequities.
Candidates hired for the position might initially start working remotely but will eventually have the option to work from one of our offices located in arlington, va; rockville, md; austin, tx; chicago, il; chapel hill, nc or waltham, ma or continue to work remotely.

Provide technical leadership of research, evaluation, or technical assistance projects, including developing research designs and strategic audience-focused project plans, providing strategic thinking, leading and supporting stakeholder work, conducting analyses of qualitative or quantitative data, and identifying creative solutions to address client needs
Lead research and technical assistance tasks on projects, including literature searches, qualitative data collection and analysis (from focus groups, interviews), and/or quantitative analysis of secondary data.
Prepare concise, well written, comprehensible technical reports and manuscripts describing research findings for technical and general audiences, and for clients
Create concise summaries of research findings written in a way that professionals & the lay public understands
Manage budgets and timelines for projects and tasks effectively
Contribute to dissemination activities, including presentations, conference posters, issue briefs, technical reports, and manuscripts for a variety of audiences
Engage in business development activities, including, cultivating relationships with existing and potential new clients, managing, or writing proposals, developing budgets, and expanding air health’s areas of expertise
Support collaboration among team members, both internal and external to organization
Carry out project management activities, including monitoring contract timelines, reporting, and communicating with clients as appropriate
Qualifications:
Education, knowledge, and experience:
Ph.dDegree with 0-3 years related experience or m.a., m.s., or m.p.hOr equivalent degree with 4-7 years related experience in health economics, health services research (health policy, patient engagement, measurement), social science (psychology, sociology), evaluation research, or public health (health behavior, maternal and child health) required
Experience writing in plain language is a plus
Experience in mixed methods research, with experience using analytic software (e.g., stata; sas; r, nvivo).
Knowledge or experience with qualitative data collection, including interviews, focus groups, and site visits.
Experience working in a grant or contract-funded environment highly desirable
Skills:
Strong writing skills with the ability to synthesize complex information and extract key points and managing manage feedback from multiple reviewers
In addition to technical expertise, candidates should have demonstrated management skills, including the ability to lead small and medium sized tasks and proposals, work on teams under the leadership of other staff, and direct and mentor staff members
Excellent interpersonal skills to ensure effective communication with individuals at all levels and from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Acute attention to detail and strong work ethic
