The american council on education ’s (ace) research associate program is housed in ace’s learning and engagement division and is designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to gain real-world experience developing and conducting research that informs institutional policy and practice from within a leading national higher education associationRepresenting the interests of campus executives and leaders of higher education associations and organizations, ace provides leadership on key higher education issues and influences public policy and institutional practice through advocacy, research, and programmatic initiatives.
Ace is seeking research associates for a 12-month term beginning fall 2022Working with the division’s research team, associates assist in the conceptual development of research projects; conduct background research, literature reviews, and landscape analyses that inform the research team’s portfolio and other work carried out by the division; draft internal memos; and, support the execution and management of ace’s major research studiesKey areas of focus for the division include: 1) equity-minded leadership; 2) institutional transformation; and 3) student success.
In addition to these contributions, associates participate in a variety of professional development activities throughout the yearThese activities are intended to help fellows explore potential career paths as well as to broaden their knowledge in key areas such as higher education leadership, translating research to practice, data-informed decision making, and othersFellows are also paired with a mentor who serves on ace’s cabinet, which consists of assistant vice presidents and other senior-level leaders at the council.
T he stipend for this position is $58,600 per year based on a 12-month term; full-time (35 hours/week)This position may be eligible for a hybrid/remote work schedule.
Essential job duties or tasks:
The primary responsibility of a research associate is to support and work with the division’s research staff to conceptualize, design, produce, and disseminate research that aligns with the division’s focus areasAssociates are expected to attend internal meetings as well as conferences and events outside the organization.
Education/experience/specialized knowledge and competency requirements:
Knowledge of current issues in higher education, specifically related to the division’s research areas
Excellent written and oral communication skills and propensity to thrive in a team environment
Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task competing projects and priorities
